At Vendors on Victory, we are proud to feature Steve, who has collected and sold antique prints and art for over 35 years. His booth showcases a curated selection of pieces that combine historical significance with visual appeal, offering a glimpse into the past and a beautiful addition to any home.
Q: Can you share the story behind one particularly special antique or one-of-a-kind item in your collection?
"I have collected and sold antique prints and art for over 35 years, some of which are featured in my booth at Vendors. Antique art was often produced to educate, record history, and illustrate nature. For example, an early Nathaniel Currier & Ives hand-colored mourning lithograph featured in my booth commemorates the life of a young Victorian girl. The monument in the center was left blank and could be annotated by hand or typed to record an event. Another example is a 19th-century photochrom of 'The View of the Savannah River.' Although produced in limited numbers at the time of production, it is very scarce to find in good condition today. These items are unique and difficult to find, which makes them highly collectible as historical documents and pleasing visuals to hang in the home."
Q: What do you think makes Vendors on Victory unique as a market?
"Vendors is composed of merchants from different walks of life with many interests. It offers hand-picked items for home décor, antiques, and collectibles. Each vendor often has a unique style or aesthetic to draw in their customers. Merchandise can be viewed in a comfortable setting, and there is always something new and exciting in the store."
Q: What role do community events or partnerships play in showcasing the unique offerings at Vendors on Victory?
"There are always a lot of events to promote and support the local community, from canned food drives to pet adoption, or assisting local businesses. Vendors strives to draw attention to these groups throughout the month, especially the last Thursday of each month when a local organization is given a check to assist their worthwhile programs."
Q: What advice would you give to individuals looking to discover hidden gems or unique pieces when exploring Vendors on Victory?
"I think most people who enter Vendors are surprised at how much there is to see. Exploring is the key word, but if you are looking for something in particular, the kind folks at the front desk can be very helpful. When looking at items under $50, the price is often fixed, but for other items, don’t be afraid to ask for a discount or give an offer. Many items are unique, and dealers are often happy to sell their items to a happy home."
